Oral Surgeon John Wm. Barts, Jr., D.D.S., M.S.

Born and raised in a small Northern Piedmont North Carolina town. Received his undergraduate education at UNC Chapel Hill, North Carolina, where he also received his dental training. After graduating from UNC School of Dentistry he spent two years in Southern California as a Navy Dental Officer. Dr. Barts did a three year Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery residency at the University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa. He returned to North Carolina where he entered private practice in Charlotte with Drs. Edward U. Austin and W. Joseph Porter. He has been in private practice in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery for the past thirty one years. He is presently in practice with Dr. Kent Moore where they do a full scope of Oral & Maxillofacial surgery including dental alveolar surgery, dental implants, tempromandibular joint and orthognathic surgery.

Dr. Barts is an active member of the American Dental Association; North Carolina Dental Society; North Carolina 2nd District Dental Society; Charlotte Dental Society; American Association of Oral Maxillofacial Surgeons; Southeastern Society of Oral Maxillofacial Surgeons; North Carolina Society of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons and is on the staff of Carolina Medical Center, Presbyterian Hospitals and Mercy Hospitals, all in the Charlotte area. Dr. Barts has served as President of the North Carolina 2nd District Dental Society, the North Carolina Society of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, and Southeastern Society of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons and served in the North Carolina Dental Society House of Delegates and the AAOMS House of Delegates. He served as chairman of the AAOMS National Membership Committee for several years. He is a fellow of the American College of Dentist and the International College of Dentists.

Presently Dr. Barts is active with the Holiday Dental Conference which has been held annually on the 1st weekend in December in Charlotte, North Carolina for the past ten years. The Holiday Dental Conference is a Southeastern regional dental meeting which encourages participation by the entire dental team.
